Acts 2:46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

As we pulled into The Pendleton Diner for breakfast in Indiana, on our trip to the west, my eye caught a Bible verse reference on the restaurant sign. The verse referenced on the sign, below the restaurant name, was Acts 2:46. Curious as to the subject of the verse, I quickly looked up the reference on my phone.  The verse is stated above, and it gave me a feeling of warmth as I read its words in the parking lot of the restaurant. What a beautiful expression of togetherness the owner chose to feature on its sign.

I’ve been reflecting off and on about this verse ever since, as it has continued to speak to my soul. Think about the opportunities for food and fellowship within our own church family. One can take their pick of coffee hour after service, Bible and a Beer, the ladies’ and men’s luncheons, or pot luck feasts in Fellowship Hall – to name just a few!  Enjoying the breaking of bread together is part of our Christian heritage. The early church valued this time to gather, nourish and communally praise God, and so do we.

I used to have moments of panic going into a social setting that involved a meal. Who would we sit with?  What would I talk about?  Would I spill my food (memories of a childhood experience)?  Socializing with food brought anxiety. Perhaps you know what I’m talking about?!

I am very thankful for our warm congregation and the many memories of meals shared together over the years. Somewhere along the way, I lost that social phobia to the warmth and fellowship shared with us by our church family. So … join us in Christian communion as we break bread together in the name of Jesus with glad and sincere hearts.

Dear Lord, we thank you for the blessings of food and fellowship within our church community!  May we be ever inviting others into our nurturing fold.

Blessings to all,

Diana
