St. John's United Church of Christ

Church families are still welcome to come to Camp to picnic and hike and swing by the Milky Way on the way home! Enjoy our Camp!
We’ve had many campers who can’t afford St. John’s Camp and need our help in our Sponsor-a-Camper program. Two people in 2019 paid $250 for Camp Galilee so that 4 of the 8 campers attending could be part of Galilee. Fees were raised for Camp Noah for the 2020 season and now are $110 which barely covers the cost of the bus! We want to raise more money for Sponsor-a-Camper to help families needing assistance. Now we have a way that money raised this year can sponsor campers in 2021…but let the Accountants handle that. We’d like you to participate in the July First Fruits campaign for our own church mission: getting more kids to St. John’s Camp. We’d like you to consider sponsoring a camper for one of our three 2021 camps. The cost is $110 for Camp Noah; $200 for Camp Kum-Ba-Yah; and $250 for Camp Galilee. Any donation is appreciated. Last summer we had so few funds available that some programs could not be run. We want to improve the Camp experience in 2021 and need your help!
In 2021 age limits will be extended so that campers completing 5th grade this year will still be eligible for Camp Kum-Ba-Yah and Campers completing 8th grade this year will be able to enroll in Camp Galilee. So the grades completed in 2021 will be 3, 4, 5, and 6 for KBY and 6, 7, 8, and 9 for Camp Galilee. Those completing 6th grade in 2021 can choose between Camp Kum-Ba-Yah or Camp Galilee!! Camp descriptions will remain the same for we're merely hitting Pause.
Refunds are coming for those who already registered for one of our three St. John's Camps.

2020 Camp Dates are listed below

Camp Noah (K-2nd Grade) July 6-10th

Camp Noah is a day camp for children who have just completed Kindergarten, First grade or Second  grade.  Bus transportation is provided each day from St. John’s United Church of Christ, Sunnyway Foods on LWW or Milky Way Restaurant in Fort Loudon.  Upon arrival at the camp the group will meet in a circle to hear the plans and expectations for the day.  They will then proceed to the Wildwood Chapel to have a talk around a chosen Bible Verse and then on to the ball field for some games and exercise.  This will be followed by a Life Learning experience, this year based on learning more about the TREES that God has made for us in this nature setting.  The kids will then have a chance to be creative making a craft project around the theme of trees.  Next comes lunch followed by a “God Talk”, a lesson about our many blessings.  Then  comes a  ride up to Cowan’s Gap Lake for a time of play and swimming.  After coming back  to camp there will be a snack and a story time and return back to Chambersburg, with tired but happy campers.  One added feature will be the opportunity to stay overnight on Wednesday  to experience an evening campfire and an overnight stay with their friends.  This is an option if the campers would like to take advantage of this.

Camp Kum-Ba-Yah (Grades 3-5) July 12-17th

Camp Kum Ba Yah is an overnight camp with multiple activities' each morning after breakfast. Campers will have "God Talks" sessions where Bible selections will be developed. Following that there will be "Life Learnings" which will include presentations about science, nature, crafts, cooking and other topics. After lunch, there will be swimming at Cowan’s Gap. Then we'll have nightly games, sports activities, singing, and campfires for the campers. Friday after swimming there will be a late afternoon picnic that parents may attend before taking their children home from St John's Camp at 6 PM.

Camp Galilee (Grades 6-8) July 19-24th

After successfully reestablishing our camp for middle school aged campers, Camp Galilee is adding more activities to the 2020 season. Camp Galilee is an overnight camp. This year the Friday trip will be to Lake Raystown for a cruise of the lake on the Proud Mary Showboat. Other new activities will include a team building exercise morning at the low ropes course at Cove Valley Christian Youth Camp as well as opportunities to paddle boat at Cowen's Gap and a hike or two around the Gap itself.  Campers will have "God Talks" sessions where Bible selections will be developed. Following that there will be "Life Learnings" which will include presentations about science, nature, crafts, and other topics. Other daily activities include games, swimming at Cowan's Gap, singing, free time, and the Friday day trip. Camper pickup will be at St. John's at 6:00 pm Friday night to end the week of camp.
