Church School

All groups begin at 9:00am

Church School for Grades Preschool through Grade 6 begins in room 2 with an Opening where the relationship of the altar colors and symbols to the church year are explained, offering collected, and special announcements made.   Students are then dismissed to their age appropriate classes.

Preschool thru 2nd grade class: Stays in room 2 after Opening.  The curriculum “Holy Moly” is used to illustrate Bible stories using animated videos without narration to allow students to retell the story in their own words. Exploration of the story continues through discussion and leaflets with activities to reinforce the lesson.

Grades 3-6th class: Moves upstairs to room 13 after offering.  The lectionary based curriculum “Seasons of the Spirit” is used to connect faith to life, support & encourages stewardship & care of the earth, nurtures imagination & creativity through the arts (music and images,) offers Bible stories that are age appropriate, and addresses what it means to be Christian in a pluralistic world

Grades 7-12th class: Meets in the Youth room, upstairs for a discussion type of class using the series “Groove” Bible study, which is especially written for teenagers.  It encourages teens to learn the essentials of their faith, own story, and engage the world in serving Jesus.  Each of the 11 books in the series covers a different topic and is completed in 6-8 weeks.

Adult Options

  • Ernie Welch's Adult class - Room 7 - Analyzing and discussing the New Testament scriptures by studying, on alternating weeks, "The Most Popular Verses" and "The Most Troublesome Verses".  All are welcome to participate. Each lesson stands alone with no "homework" or prior preparation.  The second half of the year will focus on "Revelation".
  • Connie Strunk"s Adult class - Conference Room - the opportunity to join with folks around the world who use the UpperRoom as a toll to grow as Christians.  Join this lively group in discussing the readings from the week.  We laugh, we discuss, we ponder, we pray and we do, indeed, grow as Christians.
